Set in the heart of CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, Gyanodaya – Aditya Birla Global Centre for Learning and Education is more than just a center for academic growth—it’s a powerful metaphor in built form. Derived from Sanskrit, “Gyanodaya” translates to the rising of knowledge, a concept that deeply inspired the lighting design by US+A Lighting Studio.
The architectural expression of Gyanodaya is a curvilinear marvel, symbolizing fluidity and continuous learning. Yet, its dynamic form posed a unique challenge: how to seamlessly integrate lighting into every curve and contour without compromising design integrity. Rising to the occasion, US+A Lighting Studio, known for its contextual and technically refined approach to lighting design, collaborated intensively with architects, façade consultants, interior designers, and execution teams.
Through rigorous mock-ups and iterative testing, the team developed custom lighting solutions that celebrated the architectural intent. Each façade profile was adapted to discreetly house drivers and LED elements, ensuring the fixtures remained invisible while casting a soft, guiding glow. Outdoor luminaires were expertly shielded for glare control, preserving visual comfort without dulling the impact of the illumination.
A standout element is the responsive control system—an astronomical timer dims the lights from evening peak to a subdued nighttime ambience, enhancing energy efficiency while keeping access points clearly illuminated. Lighting levels were precisely calibrated to harmonize with the ambient brightness of the urban surroundings, and the design cleverly maximized natural daylighting within functional zones.
True to its name, Gyanodaya now stands as a radiant landmark—its carefully orchestrated lighting transforming the building into a literal and figurative lighthouse of knowledge.
