In one line

Villa Shree is a contemporary Alibaug home that dissolves boundaries between interior and forest, framed by floor-to-ceiling glass, earthy materials, and terraces. Central volumes anchor family connection, while Indian craftsmanship—from furniture to lighting—imbues the house with warmth, creating a fluid, immersive living experience that celebrates nature, light, and daily life.

About the project

Villa Shree in Alibaug is a modern home where architecture, craft, and nature exist in seamless harmony. Conceived as a sanctuary that opens fully to its landscape, the villa dissolves the boundary between inside and outside. Over 80% of the façade is glazed, framing the surrounding greenery, sky, and sunlight, allowing the forest to become an integral part of daily life.

The villa’s material palette grounds the design in its context: limestone clads the exterior, travertine wraps the pool deck, and other earthy finishes weave a tactile connection to the land. Every detail—furniture, lighting, art, and décor—is sourced from Indian makers, celebrating craftsmanship and reinforcing a deep sense of place. Villa Shree is thus both a contemporary architectural statement and a tribute to Indian artistry.

At the heart of the home is a soaring living room with 30-foot-high ceilings, anchored by a sculptural staircase and a bridge that doubles as a viewing deck. This central core is intentionally kept in view from all areas, creating a constant thread of connection across the house. Terraces, courtyards, and floor-to-ceiling glass further blur the line between interior and exterior, allowing movement, light, and greenery to flow freely.

The design balances scale with intimacy, offering quiet nooks within expansive volumes. Playful and functional details—such as a monolithic stone bar and a 400-kilo metal gazebo—engage daily life while doubling as sculptural elements. Every aspect of Villa Shree is conceived to enhance interaction, presence, and connection—both among family members and with the surrounding landscape.

Ultimately, Villa Shree is more than a home; it is a living dialogue between people, nature, and craft. By rooting contemporary design in Indian materials and artistry, it creates an open, connected, and grounded living experience, where architecture and nature coexist in effortless synergy.
