This Jodi duplex penthouse transforms into a vastu-compliant, multigenerational home, blending privacy, communal living, and accessibility. Featuring double-height volumes, sculptural staircases, bespoke stone details, and curated bedrooms, the design celebrates timeless elegance, natural light, and family legacy while maintaining luxury, individuality, and budget-conscious sophistication.
About the project
The clients, a builder couple, envisioned transforming a Jodi duplex penthouse into a timeless, vastu-compliant home for three generations. Their goal was to create a space that balances private sanctuaries for aging parents and young daughters with dynamic communal areas, ensuring comfort, accessibility, and elegance across all zones.
The design embraces the principle of “timeless elegance,” rooted in natural materials, sunlight, and spatial flow. To break away from conventional duplex layouts, the slab was cut to create a dramatic double-height living volume anchored by a sculptural staircase and lift. White marble floors provide a neutral canvas for expressive design details, while raw sandstone features on a living room wall celebrate the family’s legacy in construction. A bespoke mural, crafted from the same stone in multiple finishes, adds a personal narrative to the central space.
Privacy and light were delicately balanced through inward-facing orientations and subtle screening. The upper-floor transitional area transforms into a bold and quirky family room, where an organic inlay in the floor is mirrored above through custom lighting, creating a sense of cohesion and visual intrigue. Each bedroom is tailored to its occupant’s personality, with curated materials, headboards, and finishes reflecting individual tastes.
The process involved converting four separate apartments into a cohesive, expansive duplex, emphasizing sunlight, ventilation, and openness. Major structural interventions, such as the mid-slab cut, were both functional and poetic, redefining the flow of the home. Extensive collaboration with the family guided every decision, from material selection to bespoke carpentry, while strict adherence to vastu principles ensured harmony without stifling creativity.
Despite its highly customized nature, the design remained mindful of budget, balancing luxury with value. The result is a residence that is elegant, functional, and enduring—a home that celebrates family, legacy, and the quiet sophistication of natural materials, offering spaces where each generation can connect, retreat, and thrive.
