In one line
The lighting concept for Governor Saab evokes the dignified charm of a colonial governor’s chamber reimagined for contemporary hospitality. Warm, layered illumination highlights rich materials, refined detailing, and crafted furniture, while adaptable scenes shift the mood from formal dining to relaxed evening lounge—balancing historic character with modern comfort and functional elegance.
About the project
The lighting design for Governor Saab at Radisson Blu Nashik was envisioned to complement an interior narrative inspired by the stately elegance of an old British governor’s office, reinterpreted as a contemporary restaurant and bar. The intent was to preserve the gravitas, formality, and historic poise associated with colonial chambers while ensuring that the space functioned seamlessly as a modern hospitality venue. The central challenge was to balance nostalgia with relevance—to evoke history, authority, and refinement, yet deliver an ambience that feels welcoming, intuitive, and adaptable to today’s dining culture.
Lighting was deliberately integrated into the architectural envelope to enhance spatial character without overpowering it. Rich wood paneling, deep-toned veneers, brass details, and tailored furniture silhouettes were accentuated with warm, focused lighting to create layered depth and visual rhythm. Chandeliers and pendant lights were reinterpreted in contemporary forms but scaled to maintain heritage dignity, ensuring the space retained a sense of composed grandeur. Thoughtfully placed wall sconces introduced intimacy, lending a gentle glow that tied together the narrative of classic elegance within a modern design framework.
A nuanced layering strategy allowed for flexibility and atmospheric variation. Ambient lighting provided a balanced base, while carefully directed accents highlighted curated artifacts, textured surfaces, and the architectural composition. The bar served as a visual focal point, animated with subtle highlights, reflections, and shadow interplay—transforming it into a central anchor that feels both distinguished and inviting. Scene-based controls enabled smooth transitions between day and night, from formal lunchtime brightness to warm evening sophistication and a deeper, moodier after-hours lounge tone.
Energy-efficient LED technologies, tuned color temperatures, and concealed installations ensured both sustainability and visual comfort, aligning operational practicality with aesthetic conviction. The design avoided glare and excess, instead favoring restraint and harmony with materiality.
Ultimately, the lighting does more than illuminate; it amplifies the narrative. It completes the transformation of a contemporary restaurant into an evocative setting that resonates with the authority, charm, and timeless allure of its colonial inspiration—creating an environment where memory, mood, and modern hospitality coexist seamlessly. The result is a space that feels storied yet relevant, dignified yet intimate, timeless yet alive.
