Where Neutral Tones Brew Soulful Conversations: Inside Bean Theory Coffee by Anam Taufik Studio

A minimal yet soulful café in Thane that combines warmth, light, and modern elegance into a memorable experience — Bean Theory Coffee by Anam Taufik Studio is the Gold winner project in the Interior Design – Restaurant & Lounge Bar category at the VOX Architecture Ideas 2024 competition.

Project Name: Bean Theory Coffee

Location: Mumbai, maharashtra

Year: 2024

Area: 520 sq ft

Tucked into the heart of Thane’s bustling streets, Bean Theory Coffee is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee—it’s a sensorial retreat designed to slow you down. Conceptualized by Anam Taufik Studio, the design story of this 800 sq.ft. café is a masterclass in achieving comfort and style through subtlety and restraint.

From the moment you walk in, the space sets a calming tone. Neutral walls, wooden textures, and natural lighting work together to craft a warm yet breezy environment. With a focus on clean lines and organic materials, the café avoids design clichés while still feeling inherently welcoming. Each seating pocket, lit by soft pendant lights, invites patrons to either connect or simply be still—mirroring the dual purpose of coffee itself: to energize and to pause.

What gives Bean Theory its unique identity is its ability to shift atmospheres as the day progresses. In the morning, sunlight washes over white textured walls, creating a vibrant, energizing environment. By evening, those same walls soften into the golden hour’s warmth, echoing the café’s theme of timeless transformation.

The central flooring design—a black-and-white patterned motif—anchors the space with bold contrast, making it visually engaging without overpowering the overall ambiance. The art, carefully curated and purposefully sparse, adds a youthful spirit that makes the space feel lived-in and loved, not overly curated.

Anam Taufik Studio’s vision for Bean Theory reflects the firm’s growing reputation for crafting minimalist yet emotionally resonant interiors. Known for elevating everyday spaces through refined material choices and thoughtful spatial planning, the studio continues to shape the dialogue on contemporary Indian interiors—where utility meets grace.

With Bean Theory, the result is effortless: a setting that feels as good as the coffee tastes. It’s not just a café; it’s a narrative in wood, light, and thoughtful silence.
