Concept Note

This multigenerational residence in Kutch harmonizes Mediterranean and Mid-Century influences with regional craftsmanship. Natural materials, vaulted volumes, artisanal details, and contemporary furnishings shape a tactile, rooted experience. Blurring boundaries between inside and outside, the home celebrates Gujarat’s cultural identity while embracing modern comfort and timeless, soulful living.

Waters of the gulf stretch endlessly, where sunlight graces the landscape year-round — a setting that shapes a home rooted in Kutch yet inspired by the infinite. Designed for a multigenerational family, the residence blends Mediterranean ease with Mid-Century modern sensibilities. Materiality drives its narrative: natural stone, warm wood, and expansive glass form a tactile and timeless backdrop that grounds contemporary living within nature.

Subtle references to Gujarat’s celebrated crafts enrich the home with familiar heritage. A brass lattice entrance draws from Kutch textile motifs, filtering daylight into patterned silhouettes, while relief work on wooden doors reinforces the design language as one moves inward. Corridors are conceived as gallery passages where geometry, scale, and light converge. Beige marble with textured inserts creates movement underfoot, while vaulted ceilings and sculpted hoods add depth and intimacy, supported by gentle, indirect lighting.

The formal living room is anchored by an illuminated POP ceiling with artisanal detailing and Tawde’s marquetry artwork. Statement lighting from Olie brings contemporary refinement. At the home’s core, soaring volumes, clerestory windows, and hooded lintels elevate spatial drama. A Contemporary-Indian pulse flows through Shailesh Rajput’s sculptural luminaire, MuseMART’s Shila Vayanam rugs, stained-glass accents, and curated objects that shape a sophisticated yet warm ambience.

The dining and kitchen share this ethos through a solid dining table with a lazy susan, paired with MuseMART’s King Pin Chairs, while a gelato counter playfully extends the island. In the private zones, rest and individuality guide the spatial expression. The guest room embraces tangerine and peach tones with terrazzo highlights. The parents’ room brings together cork, brick, wood, and terrazzo elements, with a sienna-toned bath offering grounded calm. The terracotta-clad verandah becomes an alfresco retreat, opening to lawns and the pool.

A sculptural marble staircase connects the home’s levels, complemented by floating orb lights and murals by House of Berserk that draw from Kutch artistry. Above, the master suite exudes tranquillity with calming blues and greens, paired with an Azul Calcite bath. The son’s bedroom channels a minimalist loft aesthetic, while the daughter’s charming suite — with dual arched portals and a monolithic tub — completes a home where heritage and modernity coexist in harmony.
