About the Project

The residence was envisioned as a calm, enduring home for a multi-generational family of five — two couples and a young child — each with their own rhythms yet united by a shared desire for togetherness. The clients sought a space that felt simple, timeless, and low-maintenance while remaining deeply connected to nature. Their vision revolved around abundant daylight, lush greenery, and generous interiors that effortlessly extended into landscaped outdoor areas, fostering openness, ease, and a sense of vitality. While planned as a functional 3BHK bungalow, the program expanded into lifestyle-oriented spaces including a compact home office, a meditation-cum-library, a multipurpose room, and social amenities such as a bar and gaming room. At the heart of this home lies the temple, conceived as a spiritual anchor that reinforces unity, grounding, and reflection for all family members.

The architectural concept organizes the residence through clear vertical zoning. The ground floor accommodates parking and a home office, offering separation without detachment. The first floor forms the vibrant social core, where open and integrated common spaces encourage connection and shared routines. The upper floors house private bedrooms, each opening onto terraces or balconies that allow for quiet retreat. Large openings on the first floor invite natural light and outdoor views, while recessed floors and deep overhangs mitigate harsh southern sun. Intricate brick screens add a delicate balance of privacy, softness, and filtered light on the upper levels. Interconnected verandas and terraces dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside, creating fluid, airy spaces that merge minimal modernism with the warmth of traditional Indian living.

The design process centred on balancing openness with refuge, spirituality with modernity, and nature with structure. A central light-filled staircase unifies the four levels, transforming movement through the home into a rhythmic experience of connection. The entry sequence, framed by a Buddha statue and landscaped forecourt, sets a contemplative tone. Structural clarity is expressed through a circular column symbolizing strength and unity, while the fabricated staircase becomes a sculptural focal point. Each element — from private bedrooms to reflective top-floor spaces — is shaped with natural materials and quiet detailing, creating a serene sanctuary that embodies balance, connection, and lasting elegance.
