About the Project

The design of Shreepoorna Oneness Center draws its core inspiration from the historic Jain-Buddhist viharas and brick temples of Sirpur, where spiritual learning, community life, and contemplative practice once thrived. The architecture seeks to honor this legacy not through replication, but through a contemporary re-interpretation of spatial values—simplicity, groundedness, and a quiet sense of belonging. Brick is chosen as the primary building material, referencing the excavated remains of Sirpur while offering durability, thermal comfort, and an inherent connection to the earth. Its tactile warmth and timeless expression allow the Center to feel rooted in place, contributing to a continuum between past and present.

The campus is envisioned as a network of pavilions of varying scales, distributed organically across the site. Each pavilion is designed to support a different mode of gathering: meditation halls for introspection, communal spaces for dialogue and learning, performance areas for cultural exchange, and residential quarters for longer retreats. The architecture ensures that spaces can expand, contract, and adapt to different forms of community interaction—from individual silence to collective celebration.

Landscape acts as the connective tissue of the project. Shaded walkways, tree-lined courtyards, gardens, and water-edge spaces are planned not merely as transitions, but as meaningful pauses in the experiential sequence. These outdoor environments invite reflection, conversation, and stillness, allowing visitors to move at a contemplative pace. The interplay between built and unbuilt space is intentionally fluid, dissolving boundaries and encouraging visitors to feel a sense of openness and unity.

The design promotes movement that is gentle, intuitive, and rhythmic—encouraging inward attention as much as outward connection. Views are framed toward the sky, surrounding greenery, and the terrain beyond, reinforcing the spiritual ethos of expansiveness. The experience of the Center is not limited to programmatic function; it is shaped by light, material, landscape, and silence.

Shreepoorna Oneness Center aspires to become more than an architectural campus. It is envisioned as a sanctuary where individual awakening and community belonging coexist. Rooted in Sirpur’s rich heritage, the Center serves as both a contemplative retreat and a cultural landmark, reaffirming the region’s significance as a place of learning, reflection, and shared humanity.
