LITELAB

This facade lighting strategy creates a strong nighttime identity using static silicone flex integrated into architectural grooves. Horizontal and vertical lines highlight the building’s rhythm while minimizing cost, power, and maintenance. Reflected by the adjacent marshland, the illumination achieves high visual impact with subtlety, efficiency, and seamless daytime integration.

About the Project

Located along a busy expressway with a proposed metro frontage, this development required a distinct nighttime identity that would stand out to commuters while remaining economical and developer-friendly. The architecture itself provided a clear visual cue: a narrow front elevation and staggered side facades created a strong linear rhythm. The lighting design aimed to enhance these inherent architectural gestures, creating visual presence without relying on costly or complex dynamic systems.

The solution utilized static silicone flex lines integrated directly into the grooves of the building’s facade, allowing the lighting to feel embedded rather than applied. On the front elevation, continuous horizontal flex lines emphasized the bold banding of the structure, giving the building a clean, unified appearance when illuminated at night. Along the side elevations, the introduction of vertical silicone flex traced the staggered forms, introducing depth and proportional clarity to the overall massing. This interplay of horizontal and vertical emphasis defined the building’s nighttime identity through form rather than spectacle.

The surrounding context further strengthened the design outcome. Adjacent to the site lies a marshland whose reflective surface naturally amplified the lighting effect, doubling the perceived presence of the building in the landscape. This eliminated the need for additional fixtures and helped maintain a restrained and efficient lighting strategy that did not increase cost or energy consumption.

Silicone flex proved advantageous not only for its visual consistency but also for its durability, reduced power load, and minimal maintenance requirements. Its seamless integration ensured the façade retained a refined daytime appearance, free from the clutter of exposed fixtures. At night, the resulting illumination remained soft and glare-free, avoiding spill light toward the expressway while clearly articulating the building’s silhouette.

The primary challenge was to deliver significant visual impact while adhering to budgetary constraints. By standardizing fixture lengths, minimizing control complexity, and aligning the lighting approach closely with the building’s construction detailing, the design achieved a memorable and efficient solution. The result is a development that establishes a clear landmark presence at night—distinctive yet restrained, cost-conscious yet visually compelling, and rooted in the architectural character it illuminates.
