Sacred Geometry and Vastu Principles Shape This Modern Home

About the Project

Set within a 60’ x 100’ site in Salem, Tamil Nadu, The Ninefold Matrix isn't just a home—it’s a spatial symphony of Vastu-aligned grids, light-filled voids, and elevated living experiences. Designed to bring together three generations under one roof, this 2-storey residence balances individuality and interaction through a central “Sadak” axis—its architectural spine that runs from entrance to sanctum.

Design Rooted in Culture and Clarity

From the outside, the house speaks in bold grey textures and Italian stone cladding. But it's once you cross the grand teak-and-brass main door that the story begins to unfold. The foyer greets visitors with a striking Srinathji art installation, setting the tone for a home that harmonizes spirituality with sophistication.

One arm of the grid hosts private spaces, while the other opens into living and communal zones. The living room, adorned with Italian marble walls, flows into a tranquil Zen garden framed by a serene Buddha statue. Adjacent lies the pooja room, positioned so sunlight from the east window gently touches the deity’s feet each morning—a Vastu-informed detail that adds spiritual significance to the layout.

The Floating Mezzanine & Divine Design

At the core of the house is the suspended mezzanine floor—both an architectural marvel and symbolic tribute to Lord Krishna’s lifting of Govardhan. A gridded VOX ceiling treatment, inspired by the 'Navagraha' (nine planetary squares), floats above like a celestial installation. The custom skylight chandelier, made on-site using wood and acrylic, filters sunlight through nine square panels during the day and transforms into a dazzling feature light at night. This chandelier anchors the entire home both physically and metaphorically in the Brahmasthaan—the sacred central zone in Vastu.

Layered Living with Personal Touches

Each bedroom is crafted with a distinct personality. From the daughter’s boho-chic mezzanine hideaway to the son’s contemporary suite, the design narrative shifts fluidly across generations. A 250 sq.ft walk-in wardrobe showcases a play of wood, solid colors, and layered lighting. The guest room embraces Indian modernity with cane furniture and Jaisalmer marble accents.

Upstairs, a home theatre with plush recliners and 8K resolution transforms the terrace into a cinematic retreat. Throughout the home, craftsmanship is on full display—from brass inlays in the dining table to the marble feature walls and custom furniture made with local artisans.

A Blueprint of Togetherness

The Ninefold Matrix is a masterclass in blending cultural narratives with contemporary design sensibilities. It’s a home that breathes through its grids, celebrates light, and honors tradition—while providing every generation their own space to grow, gather, and reflect.
