The Starry Foliage: A Living Retreat Where Architecture Grows with Nature

Nestled within a 17,000 sq ft plot adorned with mango and chikoo trees, The Starry Foliage project was conceived as a serene retreat, where architecture and nature blend seamlessly. The client envisioned a series of open, tranquil spaces—outdoor seating areas, a pavilion for live performances, a fine dining restaurant with a kitchen, and a small office. The goal was to create a harmonious environment where the built structures became an organic extension of the surrounding landscape.

The project’s concept was driven by the unique site conditions, where lush trees provided shade and beauty, particularly in the scorching summer months. Instead of disrupting the existing flora, the design aimed to let the natural elements take center stage. The built forms were intentionally organic, flowing naturally around the trees, almost as if they were born from the land itself. The design embraced the negative spaces left by the trees, making them the focal point of the experience.

Water bodies were strategically introduced to enhance the spatial experience, while also serving as cooling elements in the hot environment. The restaurant, strategically positioned among the trees, acts as a bridge between the built and natural worlds, offering patrons a view of the lush greenery. The transparency of the outer shell allows uninterrupted vistas of the surroundings, while the shadow cast by a nearby commercial building helps protect the space from direct sunlight.

The Starry Foliage is not just a design project; it’s an experience—one that celebrates nature, tranquility, and the organic beauty of space.
