Studio Deshi

Studio Deshi is an Ahmedabad-based multidisciplinary design practice co-founded by Devanshi Doshi and Shivam Vaidya, specializing in interior and furniture design. With a strong belief that “people have stories—spaces should too,” the studio approaches every project as a narrative waiting to unfold. Their work is defined by a research-driven process, a hands-on methodology, and a commitment to creating meaningful, expressive spaces that resonate deeply with their users.

Studio Deshi operates at the intersection of contemporary aesthetics and traditional heritage, cutting-edge technology and handcrafted detail, and disruptive creativity and human-centric thinking. This balance of dualities is not just a design strategy—it’s the essence of their storytelling ethos. Their portfolio reflects an ability to translate emotion, culture, and memory into spatial form, resulting in interiors that are timeless, tactile, and deeply personal.

As storytellers, dreamers, and space-makers, Studio Deshi continues to shape spaces that are not only visually compelling but also emotionally and experientially rich, crafting environments that reflect the unique identities and aspirations of those who inhabit them.

A Weekend Retreat That Blends Nature, Comfort, and Craft

Pause: The Weekend Home by Studio Deshi is the PLATINUM winning project in the Interior Design – Residential Villa & Bungalow category at the VOX Architecture Ideas 2024 competition — a soulful second home that captures the quiet luxury of slowing down.

Project Name: Pause: The Weekend Home

Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Year: 2023

Area: 2200 sq ft

Tucked away in Ahmedabad, this 2200 sq. ft. retreat is thoughtfully designed to offer a pause from the rhythms of daily life. The interiors strike a seamless balance between tactile warmth and industrial minimalism, layering cane, oak wood, and terracotta against a backdrop of exposed concrete ceilings and dark-toned flooring.

The heart of the home is its fluid living space. A custom-designed pebble-shaped sofa anchors the area with soft, organic contours, while concentric benches serve multiple functions—whether for lounging, entertaining, or simply being. The sliding and pivot doors redefine spatial boundaries, creating a home that adapts effortlessly between cozy enclosures and open, breezy gatherings.

In the dining area, a river-washed stone table celebrates the raw elegance of natural materials, and ambient lighting made from banana fiber and cane introduces a soft, nature-inspired glow. Each design element in Pause evokes grounding, comfort, and authenticity.

The bedrooms extend this philosophy with minimalist aesthetics and handcrafted wooden backrests. The children’s room is playful and open, with a low platform bed and creative freedom at its core.

At the helm of this intimate design language is Studio Deshi, led by Devanshi Doshi and Shivam Vaidya, a practice known for translating everyday moments into spatial poetry. Their approach is rooted in emotion, material sensitivity, and timelessness—qualities that echo throughout this weekend home.

Pause: The Weekend Home isn’t just a physical escape—it’s a mental one. A space where architecture gently steps back, letting light, texture, and calm take over.
