“Lucca Bakehouse, named after the historic city of Lucca in Italy, tells the story of a baker who left behind familiarity in pursuit of a dream — to bring the authentic warmth and flavour of Italy to Punjab. When I was entrusted with the architectural vision of this dream, the project became more than a design exercise; it became a process of translating memory, origin, and aspiration into a built environment that could be felt as much as seen.

Located on a compact lot along a highly commercial road, the challenge was to create a place that stood apart from its surroundings — something that felt inviting yet distinct, subtle yet memorable. The objective was to craft a building that would not only draw attention but also hold it — encouraging passers-by to pause, look, and perhaps step inside. The environment around may be noisy and saturated, but Lucca Bakehouse was imagined as a breath of fresh air — a moment of stillness within movement and routine.

To achieve this, I turned to classical architectural elements, using them in a way that was minimal, refined, and contemporary. The intent was not to replicate traditional Italian architecture, but rather to evoke its spirit — its sense of proportion, calmness, and quiet dignity. The façade carries clean lines, soft curves, and balanced symmetry; it engages the street not through loudness, but through grace and subtle character.

The material palette and colour tones were thoughtfully selected to create an atmosphere of warmth and ease. Soft, muted shades, natural textures, and gentle lighting work together to form an environment that feels comforting and familiar — reflective of the emotional sincerity behind the brand. The space is not just a bakery; it is a narrative environment where the baker’s passion and love for his craft are communicated without words.

For me, Lucca Bakehouse needed to do more than serve food — it needed to tell a story, one that visitors could feel as soon as they stepped inside. It stands as a symbol of aspiration, patience, and the quiet beauty of following one’s dream — one loaf, one conversation, one moment at a time.”
