About the Project

Located in Defence Colony, Meerut, the House of Chintz was conceptualized for a multi-generational family of six. The goal: to create a home that feels elegant yet personal, rich in craft yet grounded in budgetary realities. Instead of relying on expensive materials or imported finishes, SIAN Architects, led by Deepanshu Arneja and Surbhi Singhal, approached the brief with a blend of sensitivity and ingenuity.

Repurposing Waste Into Art

At the heart of the home’s design is a strong artistic identity, inspired by traditional Indian Chintz work—where patterns and florals once transformed fabric into storytelling canvases. Here, construction waste such as leftover wood, tile, stone, and paint has been reimagined into vibrant installations. Most notable is the 24-foot double-height Tree of Life wall crafted from painted wood scraps, turning what would’ve been discarded material into a dramatic visual centerpiece.

A Minimalist Art Deco Palette

The interiors are guided by a muted Art Deco-inspired palette. Open-grain wood and white Indian marble form the neutral backdrop, allowing handcrafted accents to shine. From bespoke furniture to in-situ art pieces, every corner celebrates craftsmanship without ostentation. This is quiet luxury with deep intent—where the value lies not in expensive finishes, but in thoughtfulness and detail.

Designed for Connection

The floor plan emphasizes fluidity and openness, encouraging interaction across generations. At the same time, each room features unique textures and hand-finished surfaces that give individual expression while maintaining visual coherence. The palette, layout, and natural materials work together to support both intimacy and togetherness.

The SIAN Architects Philosophy

SIAN Architects is an emerging design practice that blends functionality with narrative, especially in residential and interior projects across North India. With a keen eye for resourcefulness and a deep respect for material authenticity, the firm is known for transforming everyday resources into spaces that feel bespoke and emotionally resonant.

A Home That Celebrates the Art of Making

The House of Chintz is not just a place to live—it’s a space that tells stories, honors the past, and crafts new memories through every handcrafted surface and salvaged element. It proves that creativity doesn’t need to be expensive to be impactful—it just needs purpose.
