Set amidst the quiet farmlands on the fringes of Bengaluru, The Quarry House by Crest Architects is a study in architectural restraint and structural daring. With its commanding 18-foot cantilever and exposed concrete textures, the house draws a stark contrast against the serenity of its green surroundings. Yet, its presence is neither imposing nor aloof—it breathes with the landscape, in dialogue with light, wind, and the rituals of everyday living.
Spanning 4,580 square feet, the home was designed for a family of five, with strong adherence to Vaastu principles and the ‘Aaya’ footprint, which defined a surprisingly modest ground-level build. Instead of fighting this constraint, Crest Architects used it as an opportunity—creating dramatic overhangs and staggered massing that lend the home its sculptural identity.
The planning is deliberate: formal and semi-formal zones occupy the ground floor, while private quarters float above in dynamic relationship with their context. Each space is oriented toward openness and connection—whether through corner windows framing the lake, shaded balconies, or carefully placed skylights that chart the passage of sun and season.
One of the most iconic elements of the home is its cantilevered metal staircase, suspended from the slab above. Not only does it serve as the sculptural core of the home, but it also epitomizes the architectural ethos of merging function with dramatic form. Equally striking is the Puja room—a floating sanctuary backed by concrete and elevated over water, a contemplative gesture rendered in pure architectural poetry.
The material palette embraces rawness: various locally sourced stones, warm granite louvres, rough concrete, and weathered metals lend the home a rugged elegance. These elements are choreographed with care—not for ornamentation, but for evoking texture, tactility, and timelessness.
Every inch of this home reveals Crest Architects’ deep commitment to contextual sensitivity, detail, and structural innovation. Whether it’s the carport shaded by the guest room’s cantilever or the son’s bedroom that hovers over a landscaped deck, the design cultivates curiosity, comfort, and quiet luxury.
