Step into Japandi Studio and you’re immediately greeted by an atmosphere of restraint and richness—an unusual yet compelling combination. Conceived by Hoori Meghani of Mirari Design Visuals, this concept retail studio in Mumbai is less of a store and more of a sensory narrative—where clean lines, earthy textures, and handcrafted elements converge to create something quietly luxurious.
The Concept: Luxury Redefined Through Simplicity
At its core, the space doesn’t scream opulence—it whispers it. The double-height entrance serves as an architectural overture, pulling you into a curated world of contrasts. Raw lime-plastered walls play against soft rattan curves. Natural wood blends with metallic finishes. Japandi Studio isn’t about flamboyance—it’s about balance.
The design is organized into flowing zones, each with its own tempo. In the Neutrals Zone, Japandi-style furnishings rest against a calming backdrop, offering a warm invitation to explore. Lounge pods merge into expressive corners adorned with bolder hues and prints, bridging the understated with the dramatic.
The Details That Speak Volumes
A 19-foot rattan screen anchors the entire narrative—both sculpture and structure. Challenging to execute, yet fluid in form, it bends gently along the wall, softening the geometry of the space and setting the tone for the rest of the journey. Below, the wooden staircase with matching handrails flows like a ribbon—intuitive, tactile, seamless.
Upstairs, the mezzanine level offers more than functionality. It’s not just an add-on—it’s a pause point. Think of it as a stylist’s den, complete with plush sofas, a dining nook, and a designer’s workstation—perfectly in sync with the tone of the studio.
From the custom chandeliers that float like luminous origami to the gentle interplay of ACP panel arches at the entrance, every corner is intentional. Every material chosen for its voice, every curve for its comfort.
