The ashram design is deeply rooted in its natural and cultural surroundings. The existing landscape, abundant with trees, birds, and the sound of rustling leaves, is preserved and celebrated, allowing nature and architecture to coexist in a seamless embrace. The concept of integrating arches as the central design element is inspired by an archway created by the community for Bougainvillea. These arches are thoughtfully explored at structural, aesthetic, and functional levels through variations in scale, proportion, and orientation, giving the ashram a rhythmic architectural identity that feels both spiritual and grounded.
The design exploration focuses on resolving the massing of the linear form of the prayer hall, ensuring that it harmonizes with, rather than overpowers, the existing temples on-site. In contrast, the sacred fireplace is designed as the focal point of the temple complex—an element that anchors devotion and communal gathering. The spatial layout is anchored around a courtyard and organized by a hierarchy of public and semi-public spaces, creating a sense of openness, order, and connectedness that reflects the ethos of the ashram.
Simplicity and functionality are the core guiding principles. From low-maintenance material finishes to the uncluttered form of the prayer hall and lodging, every detail has been designed for ease and longevity. Spaces are deliberately minimal, allowing their use to be shaped by the people who inhabit them—whether for prayer, meditation, celebration, healing, or rest. The muted material palette, natural textures, and play of filtered light instill calmness and introspection, encouraging a meditative rhythm throughout the day.
The ashram embodies an architecture of restraint and mindfulness, where every gesture has meaning and every material choice has purpose. Subtle shifts in light and shadow animate the curves of the arches, while the surrounding greenery filters breeze and sound, heightening sensory awareness. The design moves beyond visual beauty, seeking instead to create an experience of quiet continuity between soul, structure, and soil. It stands as a space that nurtures spiritual connection, community harmony, and enduring simplicity—an environment where built form and nature together guide the journey inward toward reflection and peace.
