FLOW transforms a neighbourhood salon into a contemporary, minimal-luxe retreat where function, brand, and experience converge. Bold furniture accents, neutral shells, and horizontal visual strategies expand the compact footprint, while durable materials ensure practicality. The textured façade and thoughtful interiors redefine identity, creating a welcoming, uplifting space that elevates everyday grooming.
About the project
FLOW reimagines a long-standing neighbourhood salon into a contemporary, minimal-luxe retreat, thoughtfully balancing sentiment, function, and renewed identity. The project stems from the client’s brief for revival—of business, visibility, and the emotional legacy of the property—transforming constraints into opportunities. Limited electrical capacity necessitated energy-efficient strategies, while phased construction ensured the salon remained operational throughout, demonstrating a design approach grounded in practicality and user experience.
The concept frames the salon as a refined, uplifting environment where daily grooming becomes an experience rather than a chore. Bright, bold furniture accents act as visual anchors within a calm, neutral shell, offering contrast and vitality without overwhelming the senses. Low-height interventions, ceiling-detached elements, and strategically placed mirrors establish a horizontal visual field, expanding the compact footprint while enhancing openness, fluidity, and comfort. The design carefully considers circulation, ensuring that each activity zone—cutting, styling, washing, and reception—is functional yet unobtrusive, allowing clients and staff to interact naturally within the space.
Materiality plays a central role in shaping FLOW’s narrative. Durable ceramic flooring, natural stone surfaces, and metallic laminates provide a hygienic, low-maintenance base that supports the salon’s refined yet practical character. Every finish is selected to withstand high traffic and daily use while reinforcing a sense of quiet sophistication. Subtle textures, reflective surfaces, and tonal variation add visual richness, creating a layered, dynamic interior that feels contemporary and welcoming.
Externally, a textured brick and metal façade redefines the street presence of the salon, establishing it as a local landmark and signaling the transformation within. The façade integrates signage, light, and material detailing to enhance visibility while maintaining harmony with the neighbourhood’s character.
FLOW ultimately emerges as a cohesive ecosystem where brand, function, and user experience converge. Every spatial decision—from layout and lighting to materials and furniture—supports a unified vision: a salon that is both practical and aspirational, compact yet expansive, and modern yet deeply connected to the community it serves. By harmonizing operational efficiency, aesthetic restraint, and a thoughtful customer experience, FLOW sets a new benchmark for neighbourhood salons, transforming routine visits into moments of delight and rejuvenation.
