Studio Deshi’s Revolutionary Take on Post-Pandemic Office Design in Ahmedabad

Set in Ahmedabad and spanning 5,000 sq. ft., A Square Peg in a Round Hole is far from your standard commercial office. Designed by Devanshi Doshi and Shivam Vaidya of Studio Deshi, the workspace challenges conventions—starting with its name—and responds to the evolving needs of today’s workforce. The project exemplifies how contemporary design can integrate wellness, tradition, and functionality without compromising on style.

Visitors are welcomed by a striking parametric terracotta-hued wall, a symbolic fusion of heritage and technology. This visual experience is further enhanced by a custom Green Forest Indian marble reception desk with gleaming gold accents. The narrative of curves continues into the acoustic ceiling design of the conference room, offering improved acoustics alongside a fluid spatial expression.

The main office area features Vastu-compliant blue and yellow workstations designed for ergonomic comfort, arranged to ensure that every desk faces north or east—a deliberate move rooted in behavioral psychology and energy alignment. The manager’s cabin introduces green hues and wood finishes to subtly denote hierarchy, while the director’s room leans into a moodier, contemplative palette. A playful yellow telephone booth offers a dash of privacy and personality.

Studio Deshi’s signature design sensibility—marked by user-centric solutions, cultural sensitivity, and bold color play—permeates the entire space. Lighting plays a starring role, with a custom vertical grid system and task-specific illumination ensuring a well-lit, productive environment. Even the pantry becomes a retreat, with its muted earthy tones creating a calming contrast to the workspace. A northeast-placed mandir imbues the space with spiritual grounding, underscoring the project’s holistic approach.

Known for their bold yet thoughtful interiors, Studio Deshi is a rising design firm that navigates the intersection of traditional philosophies and modern spatial design. Their projects often surprise, provoke, and above all—work. With A Square Peg in a Round Hole, they’ve set a new benchmark for what tomorrow’s offices could and should look like.
