Studio Vasaka

Amid the high-paced environment of a functioning pharmaceutical factory, Acme required a refined boardroom and meeting facility that could host executives, teams, and international clients—without interrupting ongoing operations. The challenge was not only spatial but atmospheric: to create a place of calm, focus, and dignity within an otherwise industrial setting. Studio Vasaka responded by designing a self-contained conference block that feels like a retreat, subtly detached from the rhythm and intensity of the plant around it.

Positioned alongside a tree-lined central lawn, the building takes on the quiet character of a cabin in the woods, where nature becomes a buffer and grounding presence. This placement allows the structure to benefit from natural shade, filtered breeze, and framed green views, enhancing the sense of reprieve.

Constructed with a metal framework and cement fibre board cladding, the block is thermally insulated and engineered for rapid assembly, ensuring minimal site disruption—an essential consideration given the operational context. The architectural expression is defined by a butterfly roof, a cantilevered entry porch, and trapezoidal window openings, which together form a dynamic yet understated silhouette. The exterior is finished in warm wood tones, allowing the structure to sit quietly within the landscape, neither imposing nor retreating entirely.

Inside, the spatial experience is warm, tactile, and composed. Wood cladding wraps the walls to create a calming visual continuity, while a custom terrazzo reception counter acts as an anchoring element upon entry. Natural light is introduced thoughtfully—never harsh—through clerestory slits and controlled openings that brighten the interiors while preserving privacy. Quiet secondary spaces—a compact pantry, reading alcove, and small breakout lounge—add unexpected depth and comfort to the compact footprint.

The primary conference room is centered around an organic terrazzo table, complemented by sculptural pendant lighting and soft acoustics. A large window opens onto an adjoining garden deck, encouraging informal conversations and post-meeting reflection, further blurring the divide between built form and landscape.

Ultimately, the project transforms a functional requirement into a context-sensitive sanctuary—a place of dialogue, clarity, and pause within the flow of industry.
