INSQUARE DESIGNS

Founded in 2016 by architects Aman Soni and Janki Soni, Insquare Designs is an end-to-end architecture and interior design studio driven by a shared commitment to simplicity, innovation, and timeless design. The Ahmedabad-based firm has carved a niche for itself by seamlessly blending contemporary aesthetics with contextual sensitivity across a range of architectural and interior projects.

At the heart of Insquare Designs’ practice is a deep respect for site-specificity and history. Every project begins with a thoughtful investigation of the spaceβ€”its current presence, its past narratives, and its environmental surroundings. This process ensures that each design intervention is rooted in its context while expressing a bold and modern design language.

The studio is recognized for its ability to create spaces that are functionally efficient, visually enduring, and emotionally resonant. Whether it’s a residential haven, a commercial outlet, or a community-driven space, Insquare Designs consistently delivers projects that feel deeply connected to their environment yet stand out with architectural clarity and elegance.

Through a hands-on, collaborative approach and attention to detail, Insquare Designs continues to craft thoughtful, enduring, and expressive spaces that reflect both the client’s vision and the studio’s design philosophy.

This Ahmedabad organic store brings back the village with a modern twist

Veggiebell Exotics by InSquare Designs is the SILVER winning project in the Interior Design – Retail category at the VOX Architecture Ideas 2024 competition β€” a contemporary ode to slow living and sustainable retail, nestled in the bustling city of Ahmedabad.

Project Name: VEGGIEBELL EXOTICS

Location: SKYCITY, AHMEDABAD

Year: 2022

Area: 750 sq ft

Designed by Aman Soni and Janki Soni of InSquare Designs, the store transforms the humble vegetable shop into a tactile and tranquil experience that evokes nature, authenticity, and artisanal living. Located at a high-footfall spot on the ground floor of a commercial complex, the project was envisioned as the offline embodiment of a previously online-only organic venture.

The spatial narrative is guided by a European minimalism softened with earthy Indian nuances. Browns, greys, and neutral wood tones create an atmosphere of calm, offering customers a retreat from the chaos of modern retail. Gone are the chaotic displays and plastic bins — instead, the layout is structured, open, and intentionally simple.

Low-height display racks made from recycled metal and reclaimed wood define the central space, ensuring unobstructed sight lines across the entire store. A full-glass façade floods the interiors with daylight and fosters a dialogue with the street, inviting the community inside.

But what truly sets Veggiebell Exotics apart is its unique approach to materials. The walls are finished with a traditional Indian mixture of cow dung, lime, and fenugreek seeds—materials long known for their antibacterial and air-purifying properties. The result is a naturally scented, thermally balanced interior that enhances the freshness of the produce while subtly reminding visitors of their roots.

At the rear, a concealed preparation counter and juice bar anchor the space, allowing the store to serve fresh, ready-to-eat options. This functional zone is seamlessly integrated, maintaining the store’s visual language of order and softness.

InSquare Designs, a firm known for its innovation in small-format retail, infuses each project with purpose and poise. With Veggiebell Exotics, they’ve not only redefined the design language of grocery shopping but also created a new benchmark for what organic retail can look and feel like.
