This tranquil Vrindavan retreat redefines rural luxury with raw elegance and timeless form

Bageecha Farmhouse by THE MELANGE STUDIO is the GOLD winning project in the Architecture - Residential Villa & Bungalow category at the VOX Architecture Ideas 2024 competition—honoured for its seamless integration of tradition, sustainability, and contemporary spatial experience.

Project Name: Bageecha Farmhouse

Location: Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh

Year: 2024

Area: 7500 sq ft

In the heart of Vrindavan’s serene expanse, Bageecha Farmhouse emerges as a poetic blend of rural simplicity and architectural precision. Designed by Dhruv Dv and Pranvi Jain of THE MELANGE STUDIO, this 2024-completed retreat sits along the prominent Prem Mandir road—central yet cocooned in the calm of agricultural land.

The elongated, south-facing site inspired a linear layout that draws in natural light and panoramic views while grounding the home in the rhythms of the landscape. The architectural language speaks through bold, geometric blocks, softened by an internal rhythm of light, volume, and material.

Rooted in Vastu Shastra principles and the age-old courtyard typology, the residence fuses timeless sensibilities with a modern spatial vocabulary. Rugged exteriors featuring exposed concrete and textured finishes lend a brutalist integrity, while the interiors reflect a quiet luxury aligned with the persona of its resident—an ex-army official who values restraint, clarity, and nature.

At the heart of the home lies a bio pond, a fluid threshold between the dining and living areas. This water element, along with thoughtfully designed gathering spaces, fosters a lifestyle of calm coexistence—where architecture, community, and ecology intertwine.

The farmhouse’s deliberate focus on sustainable materials, climatic orientation, and natural ventilation furthers its mission as a low-impact retreat. Each architectural gesture celebrates farm living, from the porous edges that dissolve into nature to the deliberate planning that honors the client’s love for animals and open-air moments.

THE MELANGE STUDIO, known for its contextual design ethos and refined materiality, delivers a compelling narrative with Bageecha Farmhouse—where architecture becomes a living, breathing companion to nature.
