Rasa is the story of a home that beautifully bridges tradition and modernity. Designed as a warm, evolving space for Neithra and her family, this residence in India started with a vision rooted in earthy Indian aesthetics but grew into a vibrant expression of contemporary design infused with cultural identity. Guided by a longstanding relationship of trust, the design team was able to explore bold choices while staying grounded in personal history and function—creating a home that feels intimate, eclectic, and timeless.

Design Intent: Minimal Maximalism with Indian Accents

The core design philosophy behind Rasa is what the team calls “minimal maximalism.” Rich, earthy tones and bold accents are paired with clean, modern lines, allowing for visual depth without overwhelming the senses. Every furniture piece is custom-designed, blending materials like wood, metal, velvet, and linen. Indian accents—antiques, wall hangings, and handcrafted elements—are layered subtly throughout, resulting in a home that feels fresh yet steeped in story.

Spatial Planning: A Flowing, Multi-Sensory Experience

Rasa’s spatial configuration is defined by flow and function. Visitors are welcomed through a calming courtyard that sets the tone for the rest of the home. The ground floor includes a vibrant living room and a dining area with concealed doors leading to the guest spaces. A black helical staircase spirals up to the first floor, connecting the TV room, bedrooms, and private zones—allowing both seamless transitions and a sense of separation between public and intimate areas.

Material Palette: Rustic Meets Refined

The home’s rustic charm is grounded in its slate flooring, walnut wood details, and black metal highlights. These earthy materials are complemented by plush velvet sofas, linen drapery, and thoughtfully placed antiques. The result is a space that’s tactile and grounded but not heavy—every material selected to create warmth, texture, and subtle luxury without excess.

Highlight Spaces: From Statement Walls to Artistic Corners

The living room is a showstopper, featuring a marble island bar, mustard couch, and vibrant artwork. In the dining room, a handcrafted wood wall conceals guest room entries, maintaining a seamless aesthetic. The powder room surprises with purple textured walls and marble inlay flooring, while the TV room balances sage green walls with faded pink upholstery, offering a layered and cozy vibe.

Personal Touches: A Home Built on Memories

Every corner of Rasa tells a story. From refurbished heirloom chairs in the courtyard, to a hand-painted mural and slide in the daughter’s room, the home is deeply personal. The kitchen’s wine cabinets stand boldly against black tiles, and the guest room pairs rattan wardrobes with a custom teal headboard. Each space feels like a thoughtful extension of the family’s life—designed for celebration, connection, and comfort.

Rasa: A Harmonious Blend of Culture and Contemporary Design

More than just a residence, Rasa is a reflection of its inhabitants—a space where aesthetic meets emotion, and where modern design embraces its roots. The project challenged the design team to step beyond their signature neutral palette, blending diverse styles to craft something original. The result is a soulful, layered home that will grow with the family, adapting with time yet always staying true to its essence.
