SOLEA is a 1,725 sq.ft café inspired by the quiet renewal of spring. Blurring indoors and outdoors, it creates gentle transitions through earthy materials, soft greenery, and a central circular waterfall. Repurposed marble and dried floral glass details evoke memory and bloom, offering a calm, lingering space for presence, connection, and ease.

Project Name: Solea

Location: AHMEDABAD

Year: 2025

Area: 1725 sq. ft.

Sprawling across 1,725 sq ft, SOLEA creates a tranquil spatial experience that invites patrons to slow down, breathe, and celebrate the gentle rhythms of everyday life. The design draws inspiration from the atmosphere of the Indian spring—a season of renewal, softness, and subtle vibrancy. The café is therefore imagined not merely as a place to dine, but as an environment that encourages lingering conversation, mindful presence, and quiet engagement with nature.

Conceptually, the project focuses on blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, resulting in a gradient of liminal spaces that shift softly from open to enclosed. These spaces are adorned in a palette of earthy yet lively materials—reflecting the nuanced textures and hues found in natural landscapes. The intention was to ensure that guests never feel entirely inside nor entirely outside, but held gently in a space that transitions between the two.

At the heart of the café is a circular flowing waterfall, an evocative sculptural element that acts as a meditative anchor to the spatial narrative. Surrounding it, dried flowers are encased between layers of toughened glass, preserving their delicate forms and creating a poetic dialogue between motion and stillness. This feature embodies the essence of spring—capturing both bloom and memory.

The walls were reimagined not as barriers but as portals framing curated views of greenery, encouraging guests to stay visually and emotionally tethered to the natural world outside. To further enhance the tactile richness of the space, the design pairs Kota stone with a crazy marble flooring in the dining zones. The marble was thoughtfully repurposed from residual waste salvaged by the client, transforming remnants into a meaningful and expressive surface pattern. This approach reinforces the project’s commitment to resourcefulness and sustainability, aligning the aesthetic narrative with ecological sensitivity.

Ultimately, SOLEA is conceived as a built structure nestled within an arboretum, blooming with flowers, foliage, and gentle water movement. It offers an environment where time stretches, senses awaken, and the experience of dining becomes an act of connection—with oneself, with others, and with nature.
