SOKA Bar was envisioned by Avinash, a vibrant mixologist, and Sombir, a thoughtful chef, as an intimate, narrative-driven space that reflects their contrasting energies while maintaining cohesion. The brief centred on creating a warm, handcrafted yet modern environment, where every detail—material, furniture, art, and light—contributes to an immersive experience within a compact footprint. The design prioritised narrative and feeling over mere aesthetics, aiming to evoke belonging, curiosity, and connection for every visitor.

The concept drew inspiration from the Ashoka tree, a metaphor for transformation and resilience. This idea of duality—energy and calm, boldness and reflection—permeates the design, informing choices in colour, texture, and form. Mustard-hued walls paired with dark fluted panels create visual rhythm, while sculptural installations, including the suspended cocoon, establish a focal point that draws the eye and defines the bar’s character. Handcrafted materials such as copper, terracotta, and wood interact with precise modern interventions like custom lighting, granite counters, and ergonomic furniture to create a balance between artisanal warmth and contemporary refinement.

The design process was highly collaborative and story-led. It began with understanding the personalities, aspirations, and workflows of the clients, translating these into spatial and material narratives. Smooth circulation paths ensure intuitive movement, while sightlines and furniture arrangements foster intimate interactions without compromising openness. Materials, lighting, and art were iteratively prototyped and refined, ensuring tactile richness and functional precision.

Each detail reinforces the overarching narrative of evolution and togetherness. From hand-finished surfaces to integrated lighting that guides the eye and sets mood, the bar’s elements are harmonised to create a cohesive and immersive experience. Even within the compact footprint, the design establishes a hierarchy of spaces—entry, lounge, bar counter, and seating zones—each contributing to storytelling, social engagement, and a sense of warmth.

SOKA Bar is not simply a venue for dining or drinks; it is a spatial narrative, celebrating contrast, transformation, and connection. It exemplifies how thoughtful design, sensitive material choices, and story-driven detailing can transform a compact urban interior into an evocative, welcoming environment that resonates deeply with both its creators and visitors.
