About the Project

Nadhas Convention Centre in Valanchery, Kerala, is envisioned as a contemporary public building shaped by a refined Brutalist sensibility. The architecture conveys a sense of clarity and permanence through exposed concrete volumes, sharp geometries, and a restrained material palette that grounds the structure firmly within its landscape. The most defining element of the design is the vertical-garden façade—a living skin that softens the monolithic presence while acting as an environmentally responsive layer. This verdant elevation filters natural light, reduces heat gain, and introduces a dynamic texture that changes with the seasons, ensuring the building remains visually engaging throughout the year.

The site is positioned alongside expansive paddy fields, offering sweeping horizontal vistas. The building capitalizes on this natural setting by orienting key public spaces toward the landscape. The dining area, in particular, is deliberately placed to frame uninterrupted views of the fields, transforming routine gatherings into experiences connected deeply with the surrounding terrain. This visual anchoring reinforces a sense of openness and calm for visitors and guests attending events and celebrations.

Movement throughout the campus is curated to highlight the relationship between architecture and landscape. A pedestrian bridge connects different program zones while offering elevated vantage points to appreciate the living façade. This deliberate layering of circulation routes encourages users to engage with the building from multiple angles, enhancing the spatial narrative and making the green wall an integral part of the journey.

At the heart of the project lies a thoughtful transformation of a formerly enclosed courtyard. Reinterpreted as an open-to-sky wash area, this central space introduces daylight and natural ventilation to what is typically a purely functional zone. Through sculpted surfaces and a play of light and shadow, the wash area becomes a moment of pause—a refreshing interlude within the architectural experience.

Nadhas Convention Centre stands as a careful synthesis of structure, landscape, and living architecture. By balancing bold, Brutalist form with biophilic elements, the design creates a civic landmark that is both grounded and alive, resilient yet welcoming—an iconic destination for the region’s cultural and social gatherings.
